Who We Are and What We Do

Find out more about the club

Manchester University Mountaineering Club (MUMC) is one of the biggest sports clubs at the university. We take part in a wide range of climbing disciplines, meaning there is something for everyone to do. Casual sessions, training programmes, outdoor trips and weekly socials are just part of what we offer to our members. We welcome all abilities, from complete beginners to seasoned alpinists, and love to help members improve their skills and gain confidence.

Our trips run throughout the year, to beautiful places throughout the UK and even to sunny France. We organise transport, accommodation and (if you’re lucky) food, so all you have to worry about is the climbing. Whether you love bouldering, trad or alpine climbing, or if you have no idea what any of these are, there is a trip for you.

We officially meet as a club twice a week for casual training sessions. A great chance to meet other climbers, make friends and improve your grades:

  • Bouldering – Monday 6pm @ Rockover Climbing Centre
  • Ropes and Bouldering – Wednesday 1pm @ Manchester Climbing Centre (MCC)

Our competition team have regular training sessions outside of these. An opportunity for dedicated climbers performing at a high level to take part in a training regime and compete across the country. There are also lots of chances throughout the year for all members of the club to take part in inter-university and friendly competitions.

We believe climbing is a sport for everybody, regardless of gender, race, disability, religion, sexual orientation or age. Making the sport we love accessible and fun for everyone is what we’re all about.
